"Cloud Study" by Knud Baade, 1838 Notebook

Billowing clouds dominate the composition, their forms rendered in warm golds and cool grays against a pale blue sky, with dark storm clouds gathering at the edges and a distant silhouetted landscape anchoring the scene below. The artist captures the dramatic interplay of light and shadow across the cloud masses, employing a classical approach to atmospheric study that emphasizes the sculptural quality and movement of weather systems. Bound with 52 pages of 70lb paper, lined or unlined, behind an anti-scuff matte cover with wraparound artwork, made to order. Notes and sketches kept behind an independent artist's work, not a plain composition cover.
